Skylark Opera was founded in 1980 and is committed to providing high-quality performances with the best in musical and technical talent from the Upper Midwest. Since that time, we’ve produced over 40 major productions of opera, operetta, and musical theatre that range from the classic and familiar to those never-before-produced in Minnesota.
Skylark is known for emphasizing strongly balanced musical and theatrical values. Through our annual summer festivals, you’ll see a unique mix of familiar favorites, new creations, and off-the-beaten-path adventures, including many productions that are first-runs on the Twin Cities’ stage.
To provide young Upper Midwest opera singers the opportunity to perform principal roles in a professional company.
In addition, Skylark is also committed to patron accessibility: all performances are in English, and are performed in intimate venues in the Twin Cities and around the region. And, by maintaining moderate ticket prices (with discounts available for students, seniors, and other selected patron categories), we are able to fulfill another of our key missions: to create and develop an appreciation for the opera and operetta genres that spans multiple generations.
Skylark is housed at Landmark Center in St. Paul and is made up of a volunteer working Board of Directors and a paid Artistic Director. Festival productions are held at E. M. Pearson Theatre on the Concordia University campus in St. Paul. These productions draw audiences from the entire greater Twin Cities area.
